In this week’s Hip-Hop and R&B charts Yung Berg comes up short, Lil’ Wayne stays steady at the No. 6 spot and Daddy Yankee debuts in the Top 20.
Proving he may indeed be the “Greatest Selling Rapper Alive” atop the Billboard 200, Lil’ Wayne’s 2X platinum Tha Carter III came in at No. 6 on this week’s charts. According to Nielsen Soundscan, Weezy moved one spot down, but sold a smooth 61,660 albums going in to his tenth week of release. Gaining more popularity with his club thumping single “Get Money” featuring Auto-Tune hitmaker T-Pain, he has sold a total of 2,204,760.
Def Jam’s Rihanna has continued to stay within the Top 10 as her re-released third studio album Good Girls Gone Bad repeated at No. 9 this week. The newly updated version sold 42,270 copies and features three additional tracks on top of her smash hits including the Grammy award winning “Umbrella” featuring Jay-Z and her latest gem “Take A Bow.” After 63 weeks, the album has moved 1,636,700 units.
Surprising many chart analysts this week is Latin Grammy Award-winning reggaeton rapper Daddy Yankee’s Talento De Barrio debuting at No. 13. Yankee exclusively does the soundtrack for his self-starring film set to hit US theaters next month and helped it sell an impressive 25,730 albums.
British R&B singer Leona Lewis moved up eight spots to No. 15 this week with her debut album Spirit moving 23,230 albums this week. In 19 weeks, Lewis has inched closer to platinum status with a total of 996,760 units moved.
Soulful male sensation Lloyd has slipped out of Top 10 and landed on No. 17 this week pushing a total 22,100 albums. His third album Lessons In Love features special guests including hip-hop superstar Ludacris while his Lil’ Wayne assisted hit record “Girls Around the World” continues to take over radio airwaves across the country. In his second week on the charts, Lloyd has sold 73,390 total units.
Also debuting on the charts this week is controversial rapper Yung Berg with his Look What You Made Me grabbing the No. 20 spot. With or without “Dark Butts” the Epic Records release sold a disappointing 19,270 in it’s first seven days in stores. The disc features appearances from Twista, Eve, and Lloyd.
Hip-hop icon, Nas, shows he has no intentions of leaving the charts as his message-driven album Untitled follows behind Berg for the No. 21 spot selling 18,830 units this week. Powered by production from Polow da Don and Keri Hilson vocals on singles like “Hero”, the Queensbridge rapper’s album has sold 335,180 total copies.
Seemingly under the radar Usher’s sixth studio album Here I Stand stays at No. 31 pushing 13,350 albums this week. Featuring guest appearances by various platinum-selling artists like Young Jeezy and Beyonce, Ush moves closer to platinum at 977,420 after 12 weeks on the charts.
Florida-bred rapper Plies moved up a couple spots to No. 35 this week as his sophomore offering Definition of Real pushed 11,920 this week. The sexually fueled single “Bust It Baby Part 2” that features R&B superstar Ne-Yo boosts the Slip-N-Slide/Atlantic Records disc helping it sell a total 458,800 in 10 weeks on the charts.
Mississippi native, David Banner’s third studio The Greatest Story Ever Told continues its stay on the charts landing the No. 36 spot with 11,500 units out the door. The rapper/producer’s team effort alongside Chris Brown and Yung Joc has helped the project sell a total of 113,130 total albums after 5 weeks in stores.
R&B sensation Chris Brown follows Banner for the No. 37 spot with his re-issued sophomore album Exclusive selling 11,490 this week. C. Breezy’s 51-week stay on the charts has turned into a total of 1,749,010 units sold.,/p>
Oscar-winning group Three 6 Mafia refuse to hop off the charts as their ninth studio album Last 2 Walk has secured the No. 48 spot selling 10,030 units this week. After eight weeks on the charts, DJ Paul and Juicy J have passed the 200 mark selling a total of 206,982.
Another notable debut came from Bad Boy's Janelle Monae. The futuristic rock/R&B performer's long-awaited debut quietly crashed at the bottom of the charts this week as Metropolis: The Chase Suite grabbed the No. 115 selling a total of 5,220 units.
