Daddy Yankee to Headline Second Annual Music Battle With 5 Gum

Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company, makers of 5 gum, today announced that five amateur, unsigned rock and pop-star hopefuls will join superstars Daddy Yankee and Reik in concert at Vive tu Musica with 5 2010, an online talent-search and battle of the bands that has already received nearly 100 entries from eager musicians.  In addition to sharing the stage with Daddy Yankee and Reik, the winning band will receive a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity at a showcase with a major recording studio.
Now through August 15, musicians are invited to upload their demos to www.vivetumusica5.com, with the top five finalists selected to perform at the finale concert to be held at The Hollywood Palladium in Hollywood, Calif. on September 21.  Additionally, fans casting votes for their favorite band (through August 22) will be entered into the Vive tu Musica with 5 sweepstakes for chances to win mp3 players, gaming systems, gift cards, free music downloads, and a grand-prize trip for two to see the finale.
“Fans of 5 gum are passionate about their music and following the success of last year’s Vive tu Musica with 5, we kept hearing from consumers about how much they enjoyed having a opportunity to give these up-and-coming artists a chance at stardom,” said Juan Carlos Davila, Wrigley’s U.S. Multicultural Marketing Director. “We’re excited to bring the Vive tu Musica with 5 competition back this year and thrilled to add Daddy Yankee and Reik to a concert that will once again bring the ultimate sensorial experience to our fans.”
LATV, the nation’s first bilingual music/entertainment network distributed via digital multicast, will air the grand finale concert on Wednesday, October 6 as part of a television special that will also feature a behind-the-scenes look at the winning band.
In 2009, the Los Angeles-based group Vinyl Soul took home the grand prize at the inaugural Vive tu Musica with 5.  Vinyl Soul performed in concert with popular Mexican rock group Camila and was awarded the top honor by a judging panel that included Camila, Chilean rocker Beto Cuevas and Mexican alternative rock recording artist Natalia Lafourcade.
