Daddy Yankee receives his Casandra award in Santo Domingo

Daddy Yankee recently inaugurated a children's center in one of the most impoverished neighborhoods on the outskirts of Santo Domingo, the capital city of the Dominican Republic. "Daddy's House," as the center has been dubbed, was built by Daddy Yankee's foundation, Corazón Guerrero. Created in 2007, Daddy Yankee began Corazón Guerrero to help provide quality education and promote non-violent lifestyles for young girls and boys.

The community of El Tamarindo was overjoyed when the "Gasolina" singer arrived and a big group of children ran to Daddy Yankee and began chatting him up in anticipation of the center opening. The reggaeton star was on hand to help serve the first meal to the local children, and when asked about his motivation behind building the center, he told the NY Daily News, "The Dominican Republic is a country that has given me so much, but when I visit here I always see a huge need and many children without enough to eat and it just touched my heart."

Daddy Yankee also received an Premio Casandra award from the Association of Latin Entertainment while he was in the Dominican capital.
