Attendees At Swearing In For New Puerto Rico Governor

CaribWorldNews, SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, Sat. Jan. 3, 2009: Puerto Rico born actress and singer, Jennifer Lopez, was among thousands who attended the swearing in ceremony of the new governor of the U.S. dependent territory Friday.

Lopez, who is reported to be heading for splitsville with husband Marc Anthony this year, and reggaeton star Daddy Yankee, looked on as Luis Fortuno, who favors Puerto Rico to be a U.S. state, took over as governor.

Fortuno, who leaves the post as a nonvoting delegate for Puerto Rico in the U.S. Congress, told supporters he was `dreaming (of) a better future.` Fortuno, 48, defeated incumbent governor Anibal Acevedo Vila in an election last November.

He inherits an island steeped in an economic crisis and vowed to control government spending. President-elect Barack Obama sent a message to Fortuno, promising to resolve the island's status in the next four years.
