Reggaeton icon Daddy Yankee is set to debut his first motion picture film, “Talento de Barrio”, Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at the New York International Latino Film Festival, presented by HBO from July 22 - 27, 2008.
Daddy Yankee, stars as Edgar Dinero, a misunderstood product of the slums of Puerto Rico who becomes torn between the street life of his childhood neighborhood and his ambition to become something more. Entangled within the strong ties of a violent barrio underworld, “Dinero” falls for a girl who brings positivity to his life. He decides to conceal his connection to the hood from her. Soon, Edgar has the opportunity to make a run for it, but he fears he will never be able to hide from the scores of corrupt cops or shake the full-blown turf war that consumes his crew. Dinero is asked the ultimate question: Will he succumb to the violence of the barrio, or will he listen to the beat of his heart and fulfill his goal of becoming a star in his own right? In addition to having the leading role in the film, Daddy Yankee recorded and produced the movie’s soundtrack. Daddy Yankee is an International reggaeton star who has received many accolades for his work in the music industry and as a humanitarian. His album, El Cartel: The Big Boss was the top Latin selling album of 2007 and received Billboards prestigious Album of the Year Award, selling over one million copies world wide. He was also recently awarded the Honor of the Year Award from Harvard University. In addition, Time Magazine named Daddy Yankee one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World, and People En Espanol named him in their list of Most Beautiful People. He has also been working on his new fragrance to be released in the fall 2008.
